50Hertz counts 1,300 people who ensure that the electricity flows from the producers to the local and regional distribution grids or large industrial customers. Being one of four transmission system operators in Germany, 50Hertz is responsible for the transmission of electricity at the highest voltage level, on which grid stability and security of supply in Germany and Europe depends. About 18 million people live in the 50Hertz grid area which covers the Eastern German federal states, Berlin and Hamburg. Nevertheless, our responsibility extends beyond these borders: as a transmission system operator, we are part of a European interconnected grid and collaborate with partners across Europe.
Even more: 50Hertz forms a European company with the Belgian network operator Elia: the Elia Group. We work together intensively on the crucial issues. Individual areas such as IT or purchasing are group functions, i.e. here Elia and 50Hertz colleagues work in a joint team on workstations spread over Berlin and Brussels. The fact that these cities are the political centers of their countries and, with Brussels, of the European Union is an important advantage in view of the political and social dimension of the energy revolution.
The 50Hertz grid is unique in one particular regard: the infeed of electricity from renewable energy sources, mainly from wind turbines, reaches peak values that are the highest in the world. In 2019, the share of renewable energies in power consumption was 60 per cent. For comparison: This part only reaches 42 per cent in the whole of Germany.
The challenges of the energy transition have stronglyanged 50Hertz and continue to do so. This offers you the opportunity for further and ambitious development together with the Company.
50Hertz decided against a complex certification by an expensive service provider. We rather promote four non-commercial distinctions: Kununu, Brigitte, Fair Company and Trendence. For all of them the feedback of 50Hertz employees, trainees, apprentices and interns is decisive as well as reliable data evaluation.
It is self evident that transparency and reliability are absolutely critical factors for success in fulfilling a task that has such a direct and diverse impact on society and environment. This is why 50Hertz takes them so seriously. You can read in our Group Responsibility Report how 50Hertz understands its responsibility.
It is understood that transparency and reliability are absolutely critical for the performance of a task that has a direct impact on society and the environment in so many ways, and are therefore taken very seriously by 50Hertz. You can get a good overview of how 50Hertz takes its social responsibility seriously on our CSR portal.
We encourage diversity out of conviction and condemn all discriminatory actions in all professional situations. All our employees are equal, irrespective of their ethnic origin, age, gender, sexual identity and orientation, religion, political views, national or social background or other factors. To underscore this position, 50Hertz has signed the German Diversity Charter ("Charta der Vielfalt"), a commitment by employers to an impartial working environment.
At 50Hertz, we also guarantee people with health impairments the right to diversity and equal opportunities. In our inclusion agreement adopted in 2013, measures were set out to promote people with health impairments in working life. An internal inclusion team supervised the implementation of this agreement. In 2017, a cooperation agreement
was concluded with the Annedore-Leber-Berufsbildungswerk
(vocational training works) in the context of which a trainee with a disability completed her practical placement at 50Hertz.
The frequency shows how well the balance between input and output of electricity is maintained within the entire European grid: at 50Hertz, the balance is perfect. (Due to technical aspects the display is time delayed.)
