More than two kilometres of offshore cable per day

More than two kilometres of offshore cable per day

The work on 50Hertz's Ostwind 1 grid connection project is progressing well. After the laying of a 27-km long offshore cable segment by the specialised ship Cable Enterprise in June, the second segment, having a length of some 25 kilometres, is now being laid in the Baltic seabed. "So far, we have managed to lay at least two kilometres of cable per day while attaining the required laying depth of one and a half metres", said Dr Wolfgang Thießen, project leader for cable laying at 50Hertz.

With record investments in grid development, 50Hertz continues the advance of the energy transition in 2015
2015 was a year of superlatives for transmission system operator 50Hertz: almost 50 per cent of the power consumed came from renewable energy sources and investments reached an all-time high; less favourably, costs for congestion management reached a record height with a view to the integration of renewables. This is evidenced by the 2015 balance sheet presented today by 50Hertz, the transmission system operator responsible for the northern and eastern parts of Germany.

Transmission system operators agree new principles on responsibility for direct current connections

The four German transmission system operators 50Hertz, Amprion, TenneT and TransnetBW have agreed new responsibility principles for the construction and operation of direct current lines (HVDC). The reason for this are the new legal regulations for grid development, which entered into force in January. It is the transmission system operators' common goal to further the expansion of the transmission grid needed for the success of the energy transition as quickly and with as much public acceptance as possible.
