The shareholders in 50Hertz Transmission GmbH – via Eurogrid International and Eurogrid GmbH - are the Belgian transmission system operator Elia (80 %) and thefederal and state-owned promotional bank KfW (20 %) which is owned by the Federal Government and the federal states of Germany. As a European transmission system operator, 50Hertz is part of the Elia Group and a member of the European association ENTSO-E.
50Hertz Transmission GmbH owns 100 per cent of the shares in 50Hertz Offshore GmbH. This company with registered office in Berlin connects offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea to the 50Hertz transmission grid.
Elia is a public limited company with registered office in Belgium. Elia’s core business is the operation, maintenance and development of the extra-high-voltage grid (380 kV, 220 kV and 150 kV) and the high-voltage grid (70 kV, 36 kV and 30 kV) to maintain the reliable flow of electricity from electricity producers in Belgium and Europe to the distribution system operators and large industrial customers. Elia is the owner of the entire Belgian extra-high-voltage grid and furthermore operates 94 per cent of the Belgian high-voltage grid.
