Occupational safety at 50Hertz

Every accident is one too many. The prevention of accidents and work-related illnesses is therefore a top priority for 50Hertz. This applies to our employees as well as to our partners. In order to achieve this goal, we see occupational safety as a process of continuous improvement with the following focal points:

  • Create safe working conditions and promote safe behaviour

  • Avoid accidents at work by raising risk awareness

  • With the guiding principle “Take care!” (“gib8” in German) we aim at reinforcing our prevention culture and promoting the self-responsibility in terms of occupational safety.

  • We also demand this high standard for occupational safety from our suppliers and the service providers whom we employ and who work for us, for instance on 50Hertz construction sites.

Quality assurance on construction sites

Due to the planned grid development as well as our maintenance measures, we continuously face great challenges. Together with our contractors, we strive to set things in motion in the future as well.

It is 50Hertz’s objective to ensure that our contractors perform their work in accordance with the contract, while paying particular attention to occupational safety, environmental protection and work quality. Inspecting construction sites is one of the elements that contribute to achieving this goal. During these inspections, compliance with the agreed standards for the areas mentioned above is verified using trade-specific checklists and the results are documented in a uniform manner.

Since November 2015, 50Hertz performs its inspections using iPads. When the inspections are concluded, the results are always discussed on site with the supervisor of our contractors. The report is then e-mailed to the contractor and the responsible person at 50Hertz. We give our contractors the opportunity to submit their comments within 10 business days after the report has been sent. The results of the inspections can be used for supplier assessment. In case of violations, we furthermore reserve the right to introduce corresponding measures.

In the case of contracts that contain the "Agreement on Quality Assurance on Construction Sites" including the corresponding criteria lists and escalation models, the special measures contained in the contract must be observed.
