Berlin - The Board of Directors of electricity transmission system operator 50Hertz appointed its Chief Technology Officer, Dr Frank Golletz, as interim CEO on 14 February. Dr Golletz will combine his new function with his other tasks as CTO. As such, Golletz will succeed the current Chief Executive Officer, Boris Schucht, on 1 March 2019. Schucht will leave the company at the end of February to take on new professional challenges. The decision-making bodies of 50Hertz intend to engage a long-term successor for Schucht as CEO in the next months.

Chris Peeters, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 50Hertz and CEO of shareholder Elia: “As Chief Technology Officer, Frank Golletz has been a reliable member of 50Hertz’s Executive Committee since 2011. He represents the company’s philosophy and knows 50Hertz through and through. We are glad to have such a qualified and experienced leader on board to steer 50Hertz through the coming months in the same stable and successful manner. I would like to thank our current CEO Boris Schucht for the excellent work he has done in the past years. Boris Schucht has left a strong and highly positive mark on 50Hertz’s position and profile, and I wish him all the very best.”

Dr Frank Golletz has been a member of 50Hertz’s Executive Committee since 2011. Before that, the 58-year-old headed the Assets/Grid Projects department and acted as proxy. Golletz studied electrical engineering and obtained his doctorate at the Institute of Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering of the Technical University of Dresden. He started his professional career at the Dresden Institute for Energy Supply (currently DNV-GL). Frank Golletz also led the substation section for VEAG’s Dresden grid operations division and managed the Saxony-Anhalt/Thuringia grid operations division at VEAG in Bad Lauchstädt for five years.

“I am honoured by the trust given to me by the Board of Directors, the shareholders and the Works Council,” said Golletz. “As a company with a grid area in which over 56 per cent of the consumed electricity is already generated from renewable sources, 50Hertz has a very special responsibility in view of the energy transition. I therefore see my new assignment as interim CEO as a continuation of our common activity within the Executive Committee, in which Boris Schucht played a decisive part. I would like to thank him from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful cooperation during the past nine years, and wish him all the best in his new endeavours.”
