Berlin - At its meeting on 19 September, the 50Hertz Supervisory Board made a number of personnel decisions:
Stefan Kapferer will become the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 50Hertz as of 1 December of this year. Originally, Kapferer’s start was scheduled for 1st January 2020. In addition, the Supervisory Board appointed Chief Human Resources Director Sylvia Borcherding to the Executive Board with effect from 1 January 2020.
Chris Peeters, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of 50Hertz, commented on the decision: „We are very happy that Stefan Kapferer will start as 50Hertz-CEO already on December 1. This is a positive signal for both 50Hertz and Elia Group and for society in general. The acceleration of the energy transition and the future of the German energy sector are high on the political agenda. Therefore, it is important that Stefan Kapferer is involved as soon as possible. His knowledge of the sector and his ability to cope with challenging projects makes him the right person in the right place at the right time. In addition, it allows a smooth transition for Stefan Kapferer into 50Hertz and Elia Group.“
Stefan Kapferer, currently Chairman of the Executive Board and member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industries (BDEW): „The German government's climate package, which is currently under intense discussion, will shape the framework conditions for climate policy and energy system transformation. The power grid is one of the outstanding factors in shaping the energy system transformation, and 50Hertz has a decisive role in this: the company implements the energy system transformation, drives forward the necessary investments - and always in the interest of society. I am very much looking forward to tackling these tasks from 1 December and would like to thank the Supervisory Board for their trust.“
With Stefan Kapferer, Dr. Frank Golletz (Chief Technology Officer), Dr. Dirk Biermann (Chief Markets and System Operations Officer), Marco Nix (Chief Financial Officer) and Sylvia Borcherding (Chief HR Officer), the 50Hertz Management Board will have five members from 1 January 2020 following the decision of the Supervisory Board.
Sylvia Borcherding, who has been Chief HR Officer of 50Hertz since the beginning of 2019, explains: „At 50Hertz, demographic developments, internationalization, digitalization and, in particular, the energy revolution pose special challenges for our employees. It is particularly important to me to offer our employees perspectives, to maintain our excellent corporate culture and to develop it further in the appropriate positions.“
