The application documents for the replacement construction of the land cable section of the 400 kV direct current transmission system KONTEK were submitted to the Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure and Digitalization in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this week. The 14-kilometer-long land cable replacement runs between the landing site in Markgrafenheide and the transformer station in Bentwisch. The landing site is the point where the sea and underground cables meet.
The interconnector KONTEK is a 170 kilometer long direct current connection between the German and Danish power grids and has been in operation since 1995. The pole cable has served well for 25 years and needs to be replaced. For this purpose, the new route is to be laid parallel to the existing route during ongoing operations. The existing route will be rebuilt once the new route is operational.
The next step will be to have the licensing authority check that the application documents are complete. With the approval of the application, the construction work for the replacement of the land cable can start.
