What suppliers can expect from 50Hertz

Certainly not arm wrestling or a tug-of-war. After all, drawn-out conflicts over prices and conditions never yield a victor in the long run. At 50Hertz, we always consider our suppliers to be partners. This does not mean they will have an easy time of it - our demands are high, especially where quality is concerned. Are you willing to assume a high level of responsibility? Excellent! Then you will certainly hold your own when it comes to innovation, as we encourage the continued development of electricity transmission capacities and expect our strategic suppliers to take an active part in this.

Tenders and awards

An overview of all current public tenders can be found on the award platform of the “Vergabekooperation Berlin”.

You can find an overview of planned and recently carried out awards on the TED platform (Tenders Electronic Daily) for European public procurement.

Please note that all our tenders with a planned procurement volume of more than 100,000€ are carried out via the "Ariba Sourcing" procurement tool.

Purchasing: an overview

As a transmission system operator, 50Hertz plays a leading role in bringing about the energy transition in Germany. The next ten years will be the "decade of the grids", mostly for this reason. As a result, 50Hertz is faced with many challenges. We try to find a solution together with our partners, suppliers and service providers, in the larger context of a long-term relationship of trust.

In Germany, the energy transition has led electricity grid operators to make much higher investments in known and new technologies over the past years.

In order to meet the resulting demands, we are increasingly concentrating on:

  • the medium- to long-term safeguarding of services and materials at economic conditions
  • ensuring competition
  • high quality and meeting contract deadlines
  • establishing excellent processes and methods, particularly in the field of occupational safety

In order to meet the requirements of all parts of the organisation and strengthen strategic supplier management, continuity and trusting cooperation with qualified and motivated suppliers are a basic factor for success. Purchasing is responsible for the procurement process. We act as consultant for the internal departments and as coordinator, partner, service provider and process accelerator and constantly improve our competences.

Technically challenging projects and the variety of procurement situations determine the processes and activities within Purchasing. The optimal solution is developed together with our suppliers for the common pursuit of strategic procurement goals.
Our daily actions are characterised by our corporate values: transparency, openness, communication, sustainability, respect (partnership on equal footing), fairness and commitment.

People working at 50Hertz Purchasing have a good understanding of the challenges the company is currently facing. There are many - as 50Hertz is investing in the energy transition. In 2016 alone, some 730 million euros were invested in grid infrastructure. These investments are backed by exciting procurement projects with a lot of latitude for purchasers who want to grow along with their tasks.

Purchasing guidelines

Our purchasing policy is build on the basic principles of the UN Global Compact for the respect of human rights, terms of employment, the environment and a strict anti-corruption policy. We therefore ask our suppliers to declare their agreement with the ten principles of the UN's "Global Compact", too. Of course, we also observe all national and international directives.

Based on this, the purchasing guidelines create the framework for all purchasing activities. Given the increasing globalisation of the markets and the growth of our company, we consciously seek to take our social responsibility. The objective of these guidelines is the fulfilment of quality-, cost- and time-related targets in equal measure, so that the most economically viable offer can always be selected.

The purchasing guidelines

1. Satisfaction of customers and suppliers

Our purchasing objectives focus on customer demand and customer satisfaction. To achieve these goals, we work together with our partners, applying a cross-divisional and solution-oriented approach, in order to guarantee the best possible combination of function and costs.

2. Health and safety

A safe operation of our plants is the prerequisite for the protection of the health of our employees and the employees of contractors as well as the general public and has the highest priority for us.

3. Quality responsibility

Reaching jointly defined quality goals with our suppliers is an indispensable prerequisite.

4. Culture and values

The core values of 50Hertz - performance, reliability, trust and commitment - form the basis for all activities in purchasing. We also want our suppliers to agree with this corporate culture.

5. Environmental awareness and sustainability

We support the use of environment friendly technologies and regularly adapt to new developments. Environmental awareness begins with the selection of our suppliers and service providers. For example we thereby pay attention to existing certifications.

6. Communication

Our aspiration is an open and active dialogue with all our partners and stakeholders.

7. Compliance

50Hertz upholds an active corruption prevention and anti-corruption policy. An external ombudsman was therefore assigned to act as an independent point of contact for all parties who seek to express their suspicions of corruption. The ombudsman is an independent lawyer bound to professional secrecy, who only forwards information to the company with the informant’s permission. He is the point of contact for employees, suppliers, contractors or third parties.

Occupational safety at 50Hertz - our guiding principle: „GIB8“

Every accident is one too many. The prevention of accidents and work-related illnesses is therefore a top priority for 50Hertz. This applies to our employees as well as to our partners.
